But when moisture is reintroduced (from humidity, cleaning, or even just warm weather), the crystals reactivate and release the odor again. This is why steam cleaning and store-bought enzyme products often seem to make the problem worse.

The Problem with Store-Bought Products

Most store-bought pet urine products work by masking the odor with fragrances or partially breaking down urine compounds. They don't penetrate deep enough to reach uric acid crystals in the carpet backing and padding. Even enzyme-based products, while more effective than fragrance maskers, rarely have the concentration or contact time needed to fully neutralize deep contamination.

What Professional Treatment Does Differently

Professional pet urine treatment uses high-concentration enzyme solutions applied with sufficient dwell time to fully penetrate the carpet, backing, and padding. For severe contamination, we use a sub-surface extraction tool that flushes the contaminated area from below — removing the uric acid crystals rather than just treating them in place. In cases of severe contamination, carpet padding must be replaced.

UV Light Inspection
